Keep the licence text in the repository
Put a LICENSE file with the full text at the root of the repository. GitHub then names the licence, readers know how they may use the code, and under an open licence (MIT, Apache-2.0, BSD, ISC, Unlicense, 0BSD, CC0) ModsCode shows the code itself on the mod's page, not only a link.
