# modscode

> The code reference for Claude Code mods. A mod is a Claude Code plugin whose JavaScript or TypeScript hooks change how Claude Code looks and behaves: in the terminal and the desktop app it draws panes, bands, status lines and toasts, denies tool calls, rewrites prompts and adds slash commands. modscode reads public mods' code on GitHub without running it, gathers real code per pattern with its licence, and rebuilds what each mod draws from its code. It does not vouch for any mod: readers check each one themselves before installing. An unofficial site run by an individual, not affiliated with Anthropic. The site is in English (https://modscode.com/) and Japanese (https://modscode.com/ja/). 3676 mods are listed, out of 4178 mods read (terminal and desktop app). An MCP connector that searches them and returns their designs and code (read-only, no sign-in) is at https://modscode.com/mcp.

## FAQ

### What are Claude Code mods?
A mod is a Claude Code plugin made of JavaScript or TypeScript hooks that change how Claude Code looks and behaves. In the terminal and in the Code tab of the desktop app a mod can draw a pane beside the transcript, a band above the prompt, a status line and toasts, add slash commands, and deny or rewrite tool calls.

### How do I learn to build a mod?
The code reference (/code/) has, for each pattern (pane, band, status line, toast, denying a tool call, rewriting the prompt, slash command, $.store, userConfig), the smallest form and real mods' code that does it. Run claude --plugin-dir . in your mod's folder to load it for one session without installing it.

### How is a mod different from settings hooks (PreToolUse) or the statusLine setting?
Settings hooks and the statusLine setting run shell commands. A mod is JavaScript that runs inside Claude Code: it denies a tool call by returning { deny } from tool.call, shows a status line with $.ui.status, and can draw panes and buttons.

### Which mods are listed?
Public mods on GitHub whose code is laid out so you can check it: every module read, all the code inside the mod, nothing minified, evaluated or encoded, and every call outside through $ in the open. The rules page has the details.

### Is a listed mod safe?
modscode does not say so. Mods run unsandboxed with your permissions. Each page shows what the code reaches (network, programs, files, environment variables, keys in the source) for you to weigh; read the code and install the commit you read.

### Do these mods work on Windows?
Claude Code in the terminal and the desktop app both run on Windows. A mod that starts a program Windows lacks (tail, date, open) is flagged on its page; that program will not run on Windows.

### How is the design drawn without running the mod?
Its JSX is parsed with TypeScript's parser and the element tree Claude Code would get is rebuilt, with sample values where only the run time knows the text.

### Can I use the code?
The smallest forms and starters are written by modscode; use them as you like. A mod's own code is shown under its licence, with the licence text, when the licence allows; otherwise it is linked. Keep the notice when you copy it.

#### Claude Code の Mods とは？
mod は、JavaScript か TypeScript のフックで Claude Code の見た目と動きを変えるプラグインです。ターミナルの Claude Code とデスクトップアプリの Code タブで、会話の横のペイン、プロンプトの上のバンド、ステータスライン、トーストを描け、スラッシュコマンドを足したり、ツール呼び出しを止めたり書き換えたりもできます。

#### mod の作り方を学ぶには？
コード参考書（/ja/code/）で、ペイン・バンド・ステータスライン・トースト・ツール呼び出しを止める・プロンプトの書き換え・スラッシュコマンド・$.store・userConfig ごとに、最小の形と実際の Mod のコードを読めます。フォルダーで claude --plugin-dir . を実行すると、入れずに 1 セッションだけ読み込んで試せます。

#### settings.json のフック（PreToolUse）やステータスラインとの違いは？
settings.json のフックとステータスラインはシェルのコマンドを動かします。mod は Claude Code の中で動く JavaScript の関数で、tool.call で { deny } を返して止めたり、$.ui.status でステータスラインを出したり、ペインやボタンを描いたりできます。

#### どんな Mod が載る？
GitHub の公開 mod のうち、コードを確かめやすい形のものです（モジュールをすべて読めた、コードが Mod の中で完結、圧縮・eval・符号化した塊がない、外への呼び出しがその場の $ で見える）。詳しい条件は「載せる条件」のページにあります。

#### 載っている Mod は安全？
modscode は保証しません。Mod はサンドボックスなしで、あなたの権限で動きます。各ページに、コードが触るもの（通信・プログラム・ファイル・環境変数・ソースの鍵）を出しています。コードを読み、読んだコミットを入れてください。

#### Windows で動く？
ターミナルの Claude Code もデスクトップアプリも Windows で動きます。Windows にないプログラム（tail・date・open など）を起動する Mod は、そのページで印を付けています。そのプログラムは Windows では動きません。

#### 動かさずにどうやって画面を描く？
JSX を TypeScript のパーサーで解析し、Claude Code が受け取る要素の木を組み立て直します。動かしたときにだけ決まる文字は、見本の値で埋めます。

#### コードは使っていい？
最小の形と雛形は modscode が書いたもので、自由に使えます。Mod 自身のコードは、ライセンスが許すときはその全文を付けて載せ、そうでなければリンクにしています。写すときは著作権表示を残してください。
